I’ve been asked what’s wrong with GMOs? [1] After all, Monsanto, the FDA and USDA say GMOs are perfectly safe, and are no different (substantially equivalent) from plant breeding that has gone on throughout history.

Short answers? A lot, fraud, lie.

“Currently, up to 93% of U.S. corn is genetically engineered (GE), as are 94% of soybeans and 96% of cotton [[3] (cottonseed oil is often used in food products). It has been estimated that upwards of 75% of processed foods on supermarket shelves – from soda to soup, crackers to condiments – contain genetically engineered ingredients.”

But like a lot of things these days, when big money gets involved, we get a revolving door between corporations and regulators. We are kept as uninformed as possible. GMO? “Forget it, trust us, we’re the experts”.
If you speak against it you are anti-science, a conspiracy theorist, and beneath contempt.
Label it so people can make a choice? Or even be aware of it? [2]
No way. Not if Big Food’s $45 million dollars of fear-advertising in just one state can quash it whenever anyone dares to try to pass labeling laws.

Even worse, previously respectable scientific organizations such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) have been corrupted by big money and have deliberately lied about the safety of GMOs.

Whenever you hear a so-called expert say there is no evidence of harm, or that there is a scientific consensus on the safety of something, don’t just take their word for it: you should know that those experts may be repeating lies either because they too have been misled, or because there is a major monetary incentive. That has been demonstrated in the case of GMO food, fluoride in drinking water, and smart meters to name a few.

What do GMO scientists say about the safety of GMOs?

Here’s a whole page to explore what is wrong with GMOs.

[1] GMO: Genetically Modified Organism. Taking genetic material out of one life form and artificially forcing it into the DNA of another life form. The vast majority of GMOs are food crops designed to tolerate Roundup herbicide.
Now that weeds have adapted to Roundup, the next generation herbicide recently approved by the USDA contains 2,4-D, an active ingredient in Monsanto’s Agent Orange. Yum.</snark>

[2] In spite of the fact that more than 90% of Americans now want GMOs to be labeled, Big Agra is working feverishly to make sure that doesn’t happen. The recent TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership), a new NAFTA-on-steroids so-called trade agreement written by global corporations, completed, fast tracked and still almost entirely secret, will among other negative effects, give any corporation the ability to sue states which eliminate GMO labeling, because that might reduce their profits. Judgements are made (of course) by the same global corporations. In addition, our bought politicians have created what has been dubbed the DARK Act (Deny Americans the Right to Know), which makes it illegal to label GMO food.
